Premier League preview: Liverpool v Tottenham

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt says excitement in the Reds camp ahead of Tottenham's visit on Monday is sky high.

Kenny Dalglish's side enjoyed a prosperous week, securing a 3-2 aggregate win over Manchester City in the Carling Cup semi-final, followed by a 2-1 win against Manchester United in the FA Cup and a comfortable 3-0 Premier League win at Wolves on Tuesday.

Those results came after a humiliating 3-1 defeat at struggling Bolton and Kuyt is delighted at the turnaround.

"After the game at Bolton we were really disappointed but in one week we have changed everything, and that shows you the character and quality of this squad," Kuyt said.

"We said to each other in the dressing room before the Wolves match that the most important thing is to win our own games because teams above us will lose some points."

"It's all down to ourselves and we showed against City and United we can compete against the best."

"The dressing room is a happy place and we are now looking forward to the next game against Tottenham on Monday, which is another important game in our race for the top four. We can't wait for it."

Liverpool's home form has been excellent, with the Reds losing just one match at Anfield since the end of 2010.

That loss came against Tottenham, however, when goals from Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric sealed a Spurs victory in May last year.

While the sixth-placed Liverpool are pushing for a spot in the top four, it is Spurs who are challenging for the title.

Harry Redknapp's men sit in third position, five points behind co-leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.

Redknapp is currently on trial for alleged tax evasion but will fly from London to Liverpool in time for the match.

He may choose to throw transfer deadline-day signings Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen into his match-day squad but it is unlikely that either will start.

The likes of Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe (hamstring) could return for Spurs while Steven Gerrard should be recalled after being rested against Wolves.

Tottenham have won their last three meetings against Liverpool, including a 4-0 thrashing in September, but their win at Anfield last season was their first in 17 attempts.
