LONDON (AFP) - Wigan have sold Denny Landzaat to Feyenoord for one million pounds, ending the Dutch midfielder's 18-month spell at the club.

The move was something of a surprise as Landzaat, 31, has been a first-team regular since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2006 for 2.3 million pounds.

Assistant manager Eric Black acknowledged: "This will maybe come as a surprise to people. But it was an offer that was very interesting for him, and the gaffer has agreed to let him go."

Wigan meanwhile are hoping to sign Watford striker Marlon King, whose proposed move to Fulham stalled earlier this week because of concerns over the condition of one of his knees.
