HOUSTON, Texas (AFP) - Mexico and the United States will renew their football rivalry here on Wednesday with both clubs looking for bragging rights ahead of the start of North American qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

The Mexicans lead the US team 29-14 with 10 drawn in the all-time rivalry but the Americans are 9-2 with one draw since 2000 and have not lost a home match to a continental rival since 2001, going 37-0 with nine draws.

The US squad will open 2010 World Cup qualifying on June 15 at Los Angeles against either Barbados or Dominica with a potential second-round series later this year ahead of a six-team showdown in 2009 for berths in South Africa.

"We are very much looking forward to beginning the process of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup," US coach Bob Bradley said. "We've been preparing for more than a year."

The US squad opened its season with a 2-0 home triumph over Sweden last month, improving the Americans' all-time mark to 194-194 with 112 drawn.

Defeating Mexico would give the US team a winning all-time record for only the second time since sinking below the mark in 1937 and bottoming out in 1995 at 55 games below the break-even mark.

Los Angeles Galaxy playmaker Landon Donovan will claim his 98th US cap. he became the all-time US scoring leader last month by netting a goal against the Swedes for his 35th in a US strip.
