Koeman speaks about Copa del Rey final and his future

VALENCIA, Apr 17 (SW) - Dutch manager Ronald Koeman's future at Valencia CF is anything but certain, despite the team's victory in the Copa del Rey final against Getafe on Wednesday.
After the match, Koeman told press that he is dedicating this win to "all that have suffered at his side, whether it be two, six or sixteen". Most probably, Koeman referred to his family when making this comment. "Being coach is a complicated job, but if you don't want this kind of problems, you better dedicate yourself to something else," Koeman continued. The former FC Barcelona defender was positive about Valencia's performance during the final: "The team came out very strong. We took advantage of the first chance but the penalty made things difficult. "We had two more chances, but Getafe were very determined and worked hard." Koeman hopes that this victory makes it possible to focus on the Primera Division without too much pressure. Valencia are currently in 15th place, few points away from the relegation zone. "I know there are rumours about my future and sometimes rumours are true. But uptil now, nobody told me anything. I can't control what will happen, but if they want to tell me something tomorrow afternoon, they can reach me at home." After the match, Koeman had the shortest team talk of the entire season, he said: "I told the players to go out and enjoy. In the team there are people with a lot of experience and I asked each one of them to give it their all, and the team work has been the key." "[The attitude] was there in other matches too, but the circumstances just didn't let us win. With two more points in the league, life is different. "The team has gone through many problems but we have the Cup. Something that hadn't been done in nine years," Koeman concluded. |
