ROME (SW) - AS Roma captain Francesco Totti is likely to be fit in time for the start of next season's Serie A. Totti is currently recovering from a knee injury.

The 31 year old attacking midfielder tore his knee ligaments during an April 19 clash with Livorno and was forced to miss the rest of the Italian season, including the Coppa Italia final.

Sportspaper Corriere dello Sport reports that Totti will begin exercising on July 5th, to really resume training fifteen days later.

Roma begin their season on August 24th, when they meet with league champions Internazionale for the Supercoppa.

I think Totti has a few good years left in him. Hopefully he will be healthy and considered for a spot on the 2010 WC team.

Even before he torn his knee ligaments, Totti had made it clear that he was not going to play for Italy in this European Cup. Whatever he does in the future is none of my concern. I do not respect him any more because, unlike him, I would have given my life to play for my Country!

Totti's absence did make the difference. If Italy had some more players with his football mentality and technique I would have been a die-hard fan of the italian team. Maybe under another coach / Lippi?/ he'll turn back. Hope so.

Italy, over the past few years has had several players with Totti's mentality and technique, namely Filippo Inzaghi, Cristian Vieri, and Alessandro Del Piero. Sadly, both Donadoni and Lippi favored the likes of Gilardino, Luca Toni, and Cassano over the aformentioned.

i'm a huge Roma fan..........

but Totti has been over the hill even before last season..........his impact on the team is getting less and less........

anyway, Totti didn't really shine for the national team..............

Inzaghi...............technically the worst striker in the world...............with the best positional sense...............he just know how to be at the right place at the right time.............apart from that, totally useless.......can't head the ball, can't dribble, can't shoot from range..........
