BERN (SW) - A Romanian win over the Netherlands in their last Euro 2008 Group C match would leave both France and Italy out of the tournament. SoccerWay keeps you up to date.

FULL TIME - It's over for Romania and the Netherlands will be confident ahead of their quarter final clash with Sweden or Russia.

Minute 90+1: Three minutes will be added to the match.

Minute 89: Vennegoor comes close to adding another but just fails to get his foot to the ball after a through-pass.

Minute 87: GOAL NETHERLANDS (2-0) - ROBIN VAN PERSIE gets past Cosmin Contra and powers the ball past Lobont into the roof of the goal!

Minute 87: Affelay tries to get past a defender but can't, and tries a shot indeed. Lobont saves easily.

Minute 83: Big chance for Mutu but he doesn't get his foot to the ball the way he wanted to and a diving Wilfred Bouma blocks the effort.

Minute 83: And Van Basten made his last chance as well as Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink replaces goalscorer Huntelaar.

Minute 82: Nicolita is done for today and probably for the tournament. Petre joins the action.

Minute 82: Affelay can't be too hurt as he's back in action.

Minute 80: Ibrahim Affelay seems hurt after a clash with Niculita and might have to come off.

Minute 79: Chivu gets booked and is suspended for the next game, though it doesn't look like there will be one.

Minute 78: The Dutch keep attacking as Huntelaar tries a shot but it's too slow and doesn't worry Lobont.

Minute 72: And Codrea now comes on and Dica is his replacement for the last twenty minutes or so.

Minute 71: Romania seem a little helpless at the moment. Throughout the entire match, they only had one real chance and that was Codrea's shot which went just over the bar.

Minute 66: Affelay sends in a well aimed cross but it's cleared by a defender nevertheless.

Minute 65: If Romania crash out - and they are likely to - the missed penalty against Italy will continue to hunt Mutu. That was his big chance to eliminate Italy once and for all.

Minute 63: Romania might have to start booking their trip home as Italy just score another goal in Zürich.

Minute 61: And another substitution. Arjen Robben comes off and Dirk Kuijt, who scored a goal against France, comes on.

Minute 60: One Niculae for another as Piturca takes off Marius for Daniel.

Minute 58: And that was his last action too as Boulahrouz comes off for fellow defender Mario Melchiot.

Minute 58: Khalid Boulahrouz shoots but it flies just past the goal junction.

Minute 54: GOAL NETHERLANDS (1-0) KLAAS JAN HUNTELAAR - A cross from the right is flicked on by Orlando Engelaar and Huntelaar has no difficulties scoring the opening goal!

Minute 53: An Engelaar through-ball splits the Romanian defense but Van Persie can't control it properly and allows Lobont to collect.

Minute 52: The Dutch begin to show some of the form they displayed in their previous two matches, and Romania are now really waiting for a possible counter attack.

Minute 49: Van Persie does very well to control a long ball near the Romanian goal. The attacker then turns around the ball and a defender but his shot is saved by Lobont.

Minute 48: Romania have a free kick on the left wing. Mutu swings it in but Huntelaar clears.

Minute 46: No changes have been made so far. Piturca will have to consider a substitution soon.

Minute 46: The second half has begun. A little late as we had to wait for the other match to start as well.

HALF TIME - No goals were scored in the first half. The Dutch won't care much but Romania will as they still need a goal to stay in the tournament the way things are now.

Minute 44: Finally a big chance for Romania as Mutu passes back to Codrea who shoots over the crossbar. That was very close.

Minute 39: Cocis manages to launch a shot while sliding away. It comes surprisingly close to the goal but not close enough.

Minute 38: Ibrahim Affelay is doing well today. The PSV midfielder shoots on goal but it's deflected.

Minute 36: Robben should have scored the opener there. Huntelaar flicks on to the Real Madrid player who thinks to brush the ball into the goal but somehow it goes wide.

Minute 33: Best chance of the match so far as Boulahrouz, who maybe should have tried a shot himself, passes back to Klaas Jan Huntelaar whose attempt goes just over the crossbar.

Minute 30: Mutu launches a powerful shot but it goes wide of the right post. Good try though.

Minute 29: Almost half an hour played and Romania really need to show more if they are to keep the Italians out of the quarter finals. Piturca's men haven't really been able to scare the Dutch defense.

Minute 26: Some bad news for Romania as Italy just scored against France. As it is now, Italy are through to the quarter finals.

Minute 24: Dangerous moment near the Dutch goal as a Rat throw-in reaches Mutu whose following shot flies through the penalty area but not on goal.

Minute 19: First opportunity for the Dutch as Engelaar serves Van Persie with a high pass. Van Persie heads but can't get it on goal.

Minute 15: Romania do try the occasional attack but haven't managed to get real chances so far.

Minute 9: It's a poor effort though as Chivu's shot goes well over the bar.

Minute 8: Romania get a free kick in a dangerous position as Engelaar brings down Adrian Mutu. Cristian Chivu likely to take it.

Minute 4: The first minor chance goes to Romania as Niculae tries a difficult shot but it goes wide.

Minute 2: As said, Romania need a win to secure a quarter final spot but even if they lose, they still have a chance.

Kick-off: The match in Bern has started!

Pre-match: Netherlands manager Marco van Basten has changed his squad in no less than nine positions. Orlando Engelaar and Khalid Boulahrouz are the only players to have been in the starting line-up in all three group matches.

Looks like van Basten has cleared the bench after all...

Khalil June 17th, 2008 21:25

Romania will be going home.

vilikid June 17th, 2008 22:48

France also heading home

ajax72 June 17th, 2008 23:02

Dumb, dumb, dumb dutch! Now they'll meet Italy, will get a player or two redcarded, a penalty or tow against and will curse themselves for been such dimwits to let Italy stay in the tournament.

Tontodonati June 17th, 2008 23:12

Ajax 72, eat your heart out. Your prediction was totally wrong. We Italians have seven lives. Whatch out now. We are just getting under way! The best thing about this is that I do not have to turn my computer off for the whole year yet. Never bet against ITALY, the Worls Champions!

indsc4 June 17th, 2008 23:19

I am actually very surprised, Tontodonati, that you predicted the outcome of the day perfectly. Cheers!

Looks like Romania continued their trend of impressing in the qualification, only to crumble in the spotlight.

cannavaro June 17th, 2008 23:22

never underestimate the World Champions.....now the real tournament starts

ajax72 June 17th, 2008 23:24

My prediction being based on the reality was that Italy will go on. My wish was something else. Well now we'll have to walk all over you once again.

Tontodonati June 17th, 2008 23:32

Giorgio, where are you in all of this? Blast those Italian haters!

ajax72 June 17th, 2008 23:43

Giorgio fatti vivo! Don't spoil the party.

Giorgio June 18th, 2008 08:03

Fred, Cannavaro, Ajax72,

Sorry for getting back to you guys so late, it's early AM here in Jo'burg and I never use the computer at night.

Great win for the Azzurri. Now I think that all the other teams, including the Dutch, will feel apprehensive about the prospect of having to play Italy.

I hope Italy goes all the way !!

Tontodonati June 18th, 2008 11:58

Next game: ITALY 2 - (S)PAIN 1

Giorgio June 18th, 2008 14:47

Fred my Man,

Don't be so negative and don't be afraid !! We have no reason to be afraid of anyone. Win or lose, I think Italy will play a great match against the Spaniards.

And I think the Spaniards fear playing Italy more than the other way around. I was reading the Gazzetta dello Sport to-day and it showed the front page of a Spanish sports newspaper; well, the Spanish are not looking forward to playing Italy !!!!

cannavaro June 18th, 2008 18:25

That's right, Italy 2 - 0 Spain...Buffon all the way
