Platini appeals for backing for Euro 2012

Dave Cohen - 31 July 2008 19:09

Michel Platini in Kiev

UEFA President Michel Platini has appealed to the international community to support Poland and Ukraine in the organising of Euro 2012.

Fears have abounded that the former communist country would be unable to stage such an event.

According to reports emanating out of Ukraine there have been delays in the rebuilding of stadiums, the upgrading of transportation networks including airports as well as the upgrading of hotels.

Platini have told the Ukrainian football authorities that progress has to be made within the next few months otherwise Italy may have to be asked instead.

Italy, of course, has my blessings, but I still would like Poland and Ukraine to stage it. It's good for them and for Europe! That's fair, wouldn't you say?

I would agree, Tonto. Hopefully it will be ready soon, so Euro 2012 can go on as planned.

Everybody deserves a fair crack of the whip. Additionally it would be a great carnival atmosphere here in the UK as we have had a huge influx of Polish nationals settle here in recent years!

It will bring an abundance wealth to both countries, lets hope they can get their act together, for the sake of football.
