BLACKBURN, England (AFP) - Blackburn confirmed on Friday that they have turned down bids for England duo David Bentley and Stephen Warnock.
Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City have all been linked with Bentley since the midfielder made it clear he would consider a move and Rovers have received and rejected two bids for the 23-year-old. Blackburn chairman John Williams revealed a two million pounds (2.5 million euros) offer for Warnock, who has attracted interest from Newcastle, has also been snubbed. "We've had bids from two clubs for David Bentley; one when Mark Hughes was manager, and the other very recently. They have both been rejected," Williams said. "We've had a bid of two million pounds (for Warnock). It was rejected and the club concerned has been told he is not for sale." New Rovers boss Paul Ince is facing a fight to keep his stars just weeks after taking over, with American goalkeeper Brad Friedel the latest to admit he wants to leave. Friedel is a target for Villa boss Martin O'Neill and Williams confirmed he has already turned down two offers for the veteran. "When Brad told us he wanted to leave, it was a bolt out of the blue, he had only signed his latest contract back in February, and a replacement keeper has not even been on our radar," Williams said. "It's an unwelcome situation for us, and particularly for Paul, who has been concentrating on other targets, as well as assessing our squad and bedding in his new backroom staff. "We are very keen for Brad to stay but to deny him the move he clearly wants after a lengthy stint with the club is difficult." |
