LONDON (AFP) - Cristiano Ronaldo believes he could be back playing for Manchester United by the end of September after completing his recovery from ankle surgery.

The Portuguese winger went under the knife in July following the Euro 2008 tournamment and initial forecasts were that he could be out of action until late October and possibly November.

But Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals last season to fire United to the Premier League title and Champions League, has been told his rehabilitation is ahead of schedule and he is on track for an early return to action.

"I am feeling fine. I am feeling really good and my recovery is going well," the 23-year-old said.

"I am more than happy with my progress and I hope to be back playing for United by the end of September - that is my target and it is a realistic one.

"It has been frustrating to miss the start of the Premier League season but I am pleased with my rehabilitation and, hopefully, I'll be ready soon."

Ronaldo is cheating and not that badly injured... And united hierarchy want to break his career rather than let him get what he wants..

If you have your 23 year old star player sign a 5 year contract and then want to leave the next summer. Would you let him?

Yep absolutely free to go ..somebody from Real dreams about Chelsea , other from Tottenham about United and so on ..Ronaldo dreams about Real why not let him ? first he is not trustfull to play honestly with his team , especially if he ever play against Real and then giving that much importance and ignore the whole team that's really stupid !!

Look, signed contracts must be fulfilled until there are only 2 years on a contract, when the player can use the so called Webster rule and buy out his contract. Till then a player is obligated to fulfill his contract because he was the one who signed it.
If it was your way, football would be madness with players exchanging clubs like underwear.

Thats exactly where it is heading...get used to it. Club loyalty and team interest rarely exist anymore and will continue to deplete into the future unless something is done about the number of players allowed to play from a foreign nation. That includes all EU nations being treated as foreigners and all this dual citizenship BS going on. If you came out of your mom's cut in a nation....that is whom you should play for Internationally, and you should be one of the 5 internationals allowed to that team, even if you have become a citizen there since birth. This is the only way to bring equity amongst all clubs and restore player loyalty to his team.
