Tottenham´s Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov, seen here in April 2008, pleaded to be allowed to follow his dream. |

LONDON (AFP) - Tottenham's Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov on Monday pleaded to be allowed to follow his dream.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United for much of the summer.
But Spurs turned down the original bid of 20 million pounds saying they were not interested in letting Berbatov go for less than 30 million.
"I'm now in Tottenham but no one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream," Berbatov told The Times ahead of his country's midweek friendly with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
His agent Emil Dantchev said: "We have two more weeks until the end of the transfer window and I think this will be the most important week. I read Alex Ferguson's statement that he wants another striker and I hope that this striker is Dimitar Berbatov."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has not made a formal offer since seeing his first bid turned down but with Cristiano Ronaldo out injured and Carlos Tevez missing due to a bereavement, the champions' problems up front were obvious as they opened their title defence with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Sunday.

Shame on you Tottenham, you should let him go! His talant shouldn't be wasted! The time for him to win some trophys with a better club has come! He did more than enough for Tottenham and now is the time for the club to show some respect and let the player follow his dream...newtonheath1878 August 18th, 2008 14:08
I think as United fans we should be very careful not to come across as hypocrites when commenting on the Berbatov saga. I do personally believe Berba will sign for United before the end of August but we must let it take its own course! We must respect the wishes of Tottenham and if they don't want to sell then that must be respected! Lest we forget the recent Ronaldo saga, it was and still is his dream, one day, to play for Real Madrid but there was no chances of United letting that happen. So come on boys, let Spurs do what they think is right, at the end of the day it was all we were asking for when Madrid were knocking on the door!HeMaMPaBeH August 18th, 2008 14:41
Newton, Ronaldo saga was a lot difrent... first of all Ronaldo is 23 he has at least 7-8 years to play and he can go to Real a couple of years later and it won't be a disaster, but Dimitar's case is different he is 27 he has reach the pick of his form and every year from now on he will start slowly to lose a bit of his best... that makes his chances to go to Man Utd very weak... After all as a United fan you know that Sir Alex invest in young players often between 18 -20 years it is rear for him to buy 27year old player unlike Madrid's giants who buys only world class players in the end of their careers... i bet my money that Ronaldo will follow Beckham and Nistelroy someday and he will see his dream wasn't worth it...newtonheath1878 August 18th, 2008 15:14
HeMaMPaBeH. You seem to be missing the point! The reason why United don't want to let Ronaldo go is because he brings so much to the team regardless of his age, the same goes with Berba at Spurs, they don't want him to go because he along with Keane brought them many goals last season and to lose him will be a huge void to fill. We can't say to Berbatov come to us because it's his dream because we would be hypocrites as we ignored the very same plea from Ronaldo. Age plays no part in these scenarios my friend we have to respect that Berba is a contracted spurs player and if he is to be sold it will Spurs prerogative to do so! Why do you think Ferguson is keeping hush hush about it all, the answer is simple, he doesn’t want to be accused of double standards and be seen in the same light as Calderon and co!

For the first time I have witnessed a very fair debate on transfers and I agree with both of you at some points but lets try to see it Berbatov's way. Tottenham is a club which is not actually considered that big a club (i.e. the big 4) in the Premier League and due to recent arrivals of many players like Bentley and Modric and Spurs' interest in Andrei Arshavin has very much ignited Barba's wish to move to a bigger club. He probably thinks he has been very much an under-rated striker for quite some time and finally deserves to be in a club that has constant bids to earn Trophies.SoccerwayHooligan August 18th, 2008 20:28
We saw yesterday, how much Manchester Utd. need Ronaldo.DaJohnner August 19th, 2008 06:01
Have seen this before...Berbatov will not excel in a big club like MU, he can go but he will be dissapointed and will not produce anywhere near what he has for Spurs.phughes699 August 19th, 2008 07:36
I think DaJohnner means he hopes he won't produce what he has at Spurs.SAJNSHE August 19th, 2008 12:29
What A Hell is Tottenham Doing The Must Have Left Berbeatov like Keane They have Modric & Dos Santos
