WIGAN, England (AFP) - Relegation-threatened Wigan has completed the 2.4-million-pound signing of Nigerian striker Julius Aghahowa from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk.
The final obstacle to the deal was lifted Tuesday when Aghahowa, 24, was granted a work permit, allowing him to becoming Wigan boss Paul Jewell´s second striker signing following last week´s 500,000-pound acquisition of Caleb Folan from Chesterfield.
Jewell is confident Aghahowa will be a big hit in the Premiership.
"He´s a striker of real pedigree who will add huge competition to the attacking positions," said Jewell, who also has Emile Heskey and Henri Camara on his books.
"We´ve really done our homework on this one, while I´ve watched him personally on two occasions.
"He´s quick, strong, aggressive, good with both feet and I´m sure he will adapt to the rigours of the Premiership."
